Something has been broken in the United States for quite a while. Politics are extremely polarizing. Transgenderism is widespread. Public shootings and assassinations are more common than ever before. While many Americans are aware that something is broken in our country, they can’t exactly pinpoint the root cause or explain why. As a Christian, it’s really easy to chalk it up to sin. While I do agree that lawlessness and wickedness have ramped up significantly in the United States in the last decade, there’s a disturbing reality happening right under our noses and it’s more complex than just sin. The truth of the matter is this – WE ARE AT WAR.
There is a culture war raging internally in our nation. It’s not a war against Republican vs Democrat or left vs right. It’s a war against two very different but clashing worldviews; one passive and the other hostile.
One of my favorite film genres is war movies. I watch them because they remind me of the tremendous sacrifices that were made and the terrible cost of war. Those stories help me appreciate the freedoms I enjoy as an American citizen and encourage me to remain grateful for them. One thing that I learned from watching war films and studying history is how easy it was for Nazi Germany to conquer most of Europe in WWII. Hitler simply sent his army and they marched right in and took it. Why? Because the countries were either poorly fortified or failed to put up a fight.
The culture war that is taking place today is no different. The culture war that is happening right now is between Progressive Secularists and Christians. Unfortunately, Progressive Secularists have gained so much ground in our country because Christians have done very little to fight back. It’s as if Christians in America have forgotten it is their duty as believers to slow societal decay.
I don’t have the data to back this up but I personally believe rapture doctrine has conditioned millions of American believers to have an “escapist mentality.” An escapist mentality is essentially a Christian who is indifferent about the world and their surroundings. The mentality is this: ‘The world is bad but it’s not my problem because Jesus is coming soon.’ I also believe the Calvinist doctrine has had an effect on Christians not willing to advance the kingdom because they believe all actions and events are predetermined.
In any event, this do-nothing approach is the reason why we have an entire lost generation of young people who have been indoctrinated with a Progressive Secularist worldview. No other person understood this dangerous reality better than Charlie Kirk.
Charlie Kirk made it his mission in life to fight Progressive Secularism by going to college campuses, the belly of the beast, to engage in public discourse. Tragically, Charlie was murdered because his worldview clashed with Progressive Secularism. With that being the case, it is only appropriate that we take a deeper look into these diametrically opposed worldviews so we have a better understanding of what’s really happening and what’s at stake.
The Christian Theological Worldview
First and foremost, a worldview can simply be defined as the way a person sees the world.
At the core of the Christian Theological Worldview is this – people are inherently evil and can only be redeemed by Jesus. This idea/truth is rooted in the scriptures; more specifically the book of Romans:
“As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.” Romans 3:10-12 NKJV
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 NKJV
Individuals who have a Christian Theological Worldview view the world through a lens of right vs. wrong. For a Christian, there is only ONE truth; not “your truth, “their truth” or, “my truth.” What’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong. Truth isn’t subjective nor is it complex. Sin IS sin. Abortion is murder; not “healthcare.” Homosexuality is shameful; not an identity to be “proud” of or celebrated. Transgenderism is a mental illness; not something to be normalized or enforced with HRT.
Christians also believe that hating anyone is wrong and is NEVER justified. Afterall, Jesus commands us to love our enemies:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Matthew 5:43-46 NKJV
The Progressive Secularist Worldview
At the core of the Progressive Secularist Worldview is this – ALL people are inherently good and humans are at their best when they tolerate and affirm all lifestyles and identities. As you can see right off the bat, it’s the complete opposite of the Christian Theological Worldview.
Individuals who have a Progressive Secularist Worldview view the world through an oppressed vs. oppressor lens. They believe billionaires, oligarchies, and capitalism, are oppressive systems designed to keep the average person down. They believe women, racial minorities, Palestine, and the LGBTQ community are marginalized people groups. Pregnancies are oppressive to women, white people are the oppressors to blacks, Israel the oppressor to Palestine and Muslims, and Christians the oppressors to the LGBTQ community. They also believe capitalism and billionaires are evil and the antidote to said evil is Marxist Socialism.
Because Progressive Secularists see the world through an oppressed vs. oppressor lens, they believe they have a moral obligation to stop whatever/whomever they believe is the oppressor and the ends justify the means. It’s why Luigi Mangione murdered the United Health Care CEO Brian Thompson, why Tyler Robinson murdered Charlie Kirk, and why President Donald Trump has had three different attempts on his life.
Progressive Secularists vehemently despise capitalism and corporations. Sure, greed can be a real problem in a capitalist society but a Progressive Secularist usually fails to realize their hatred for the rich is rooted in another sin that is just as evil – covetousness. This ideology is why socialism is rapidly spreading in America (Zohran Mamdani and Katie Wilson).
The War
THIS is the war that is raging in America. Assassination culture and the growing support for socialism all points to Progressive Secularism. Unfortunately, the mainstream media has chosen to side with Progressive Secularism. The mainstream media’s refusal to remain impartial has only fanned the flames into a raging inferno that has spread beyond containment. The media and Democrats constantly call Republicans “racists” and “fascists” which only raises the temperature in our country. AND THEY KNOW IT. Every time someone on their side commits an act of violence, they always make a predictable public statement condemning violence but they immediately go back to spewing their dangerous rhetoric.
President Donald Trump has been called a racist and fascist since he first stepped into the political limelight. These politically charged accusations only rile up Progressive Secularists to take action. They know evil was committed under the name of fascism so they rationalize that they have a moral obligation to take out someone they perceive as a fascist for the “greater good of humanity.”
Unfortunately, Progressive Secularists have been winning this battle for years because many American Christians failed to recognize that the other side declared war on their values long ago. But… there’s hope. I am convinced that the assassination of Charlie Kirk woke up a sleeping giant in America. For the first time in many decades, Christians are rising up to push back against the darkness; however, we cannot relent and need to be more involved in the fight.
How Do We Fight?
“We believe that unless the church flatulent becomes the church militant, it will become the church irrelevant.” – Seth Gruber
First of all, we as Christians have to understand that just because the culture war has the appearance of a physical war, it doesn’t mean it’s not spiritual in nature.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 NKJV
The culture war is downstream from the spiritual war which requires us as believers to pay attention to it and push back. The best way to lose a war is by doing NOTHING.
As believers, one of the most important things we can do to fight back is to vote. Pastor Josh Howerton of Lakepointe Church once preached what I believe is one of the best sermons on the topic of voting. Josh Howerton accurately stated in that sermon, “Voting is your power to pick the best AVAILABLE path forward. Personalities come and go but policies last a long time.” (Scroll down to bottom of this article to watch the full sermon. I highly recommend it!)
In 2020, it is estimated that around 25 million Christians who were registered voters did not vote in the 2020 presidential election and as many as 65 million Christians do not vote in local elections (source here).
If every Christian voted for the best available path forward, we wouldn’t have godless legislators trying to push godless legislation through in our government!
The good news is there’s more than one way to fight a battle and voting isn’t our only option. Charlie Kirk once famously said, “Get married, have kids…. leave a legacy, and be courageous.”
In that statement, Charlie outlined three things that I believe are crucial for winning this culture war.
The first is to get married and have children. Fatherlessness and family instability have become widespread challenges in American society, leaving lasting emotional and social consequences for many children who grow up without stable homes. In a culture that elevates sexual freedom over marriage and prioritizes careers or lifestyles over starting a family, getting married and raising children in a stable home will raise up a new generation without all the mental and emotional baggage that many Gen Z’s and Gen Alphas have today. Don’t forget this sobering truth – Progressive Secularists aren’t having any children because they’re too busy aborting them or chopping off their genitals. We can OUTNUMBER them in 20 years tops.
The second thing critical to winning the culture war is leaving a legacy. Leaving behind a legacy doesn’t mean living a life of vanity and fame. It means to leave something behind that will last long after you’re gone. The best inheritance you can leave behind isn’t your wealth, it’s raising children in a Godly environment:
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 NKJV
You can also leave behind a lasting legacy by spreading the gospel to those around you. This means to EVANGELIZE.
“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” Romans 10:14-15 NKJV
And this leads me to the third and final thing to winning the culture war – be courageous! Progressive Secularists hate free speech and one way they try to beat us is by silencing or canceling us. We cannot allow these tactics to intimidate us into silence anymore. If God is on our side, who can be against us?
“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4 NKJV
It’s time to rise up church and fight for what is right. Not for our sake but for our children, our children’s children, and for their children.
