Today marks the 250th anniversary since the United States declared independence from Great Britain. The Semiquincentennial celebration is special for several reasons but mainly because no other Constitutional Republic has made it to 250 years as a sovereign nation. As a matter of fact, The United States is the longest lasting Constitutional Republic in world history. Democracies have risen and fallen throughout history but the United States is still standing. If you were to ask AI why The United States has lasted as long as it has, it would attribute it to its system of checks and balances. However, I have a simpler explanation that no computer or secularist would ever understand or admit – God.
The Bible tells us in the book of Psalms that a nation is blessed when they make the Lord their God.
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Psalms 33:12a NKJV
Recently, my wife and I watched the movie National Treasure. For those not familiar with the film, it stars Nicolas Cage whose character is a treasure hunter searching for the fabled treasure of the Knights Templar. This fictional movie heavily implies that the Founding Fathers hid clues to the treasure’s location; clues that were hidden in plain sight but lost to time. This movie got me thinking about our heritage as a nation. Contrary to what is being taught in public schools and propagated by the mainstream media, The United States WAS in fact founded on Christian principles.
In a letter written to Thomas Jefferson in 1813, John Adams, the second U.S. President wrote:
“The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity.”
This is a history that progressive secularists vehemently deny and work so hard to rewrite. It’s almost as if the once well-known fact about our Christian heritage has been lost to time. Nonetheless, the clues are still hidden in plain sight. It’s on our currency “In God We Trust.” It’s in our Pledge of Allegiance “One Nation Under God.” And it’s in our Declaration of Independence “… that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.”
The National Archives in Washington D.C. displays the Charters of Freedom, which makes up the three most important documents in the United States – The Declaration of Independence, The Bill of Rights, and the Constitution. The National Archives also displays what I consider to be the fourth most important document – The Treaty of Paris. The Treaty of Paris is the document that ended the Revolutionary War and officially made the United States a sovereign independent nation. The title of the document reads:
“IN THE NAME OF THE MOST HOLY & UNDIVIDED TRINITY.”
The United States officially became a nation in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit but this a fact that has been left out to push an entirely different narrative about our history. The false narrative that the U.S. is not a Christian nation has been pushed so hard the last 30 years that the majority of Americans have either been indoctrinated or have forgotten the truth.
History proves time and time again that a people who forget their heritage will inevitable go morally bankrupt. As a matter of fact, this is proven in the Bible in the book of Judges.
“Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of a hundred and ten. And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath Heres in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash. After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals. They forsook the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and worshiped various gods of the peoples around them. They aroused the Lord’s anger because they forsook him and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. In his anger against Israel the Lord gave them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist. Whenever Israel went out to fight, the hand of the Lord was against them to defeat them, just as he had sworn to them. They were in great distress.” Judges 2:8-15 NKJV
What happened in Judges is being played out today in our very country. We have an entire generation of Americans who hate the United States and empathize with marxist ideology. This generation has the false belief that their cultural values are morally superior compared to those who lived before them. C.S. Lewis famously referred to this mindset as “Chronological Snobbery.” This generation likes to argue that the United States is evil because of the atrocities committed against the Native Americans and because of slavery. While I would agree that these things are evil and are a stain on our history as a nation, I don’t believe it disqualifies the U.S. from being a Christian nation. David in the bible was a murderer and adulterer but because of his contrition, David is referred to as “a man after God’s own heart.” Ironically, the values held dearly by the generation today, (abortion and the LGBTQ agenda) are far greater evils than the evil committed in our past. For example, since the start of the Sexual Revolution, more infants have been slaughtered on the altars of sexual promiscuity and pleasure than people who were killed in World War I and World War II COMBINED.
It is only by the grace of God that we’ve made it to our 250th and it’s only by God’s grace if we make it to our 300th. We are a blessed nation and we have a reason to celebrate 250 years as a nation. But as we celebrate our 250th, let’s also give God a reason to have mercy on us as a nation; a nation who has forgotten her God and her Christian heritage.
